Javon Cherry

Senior, Dwight D Eisenhower, Going to: Northern Illinois University

Javon recognizes the disparities that exist in our world and is committed to ensuring that people, especially those in underserved communities, receive the care they need. Through his college education, he plans to give back and serve his community in meaningful ways. This scholarship will help support his educational expenses, including tuition and books.

Aniya Harris

Sophomore, University of Southern California, Career Goal: Physician-Oncologist

Aniya is pursuing a degree in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and plans to earn a master’s in molecular microbiology and immunology before attending medical school. Her passion for medicine stems from witnessing healthcare inequity surrounding her  grandmother’s medical care. Receiving the Provident Scholarship would help offset her housing expenses, allowing her to focus on her studies, research, and community service as she prepares for a career dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes for underserved populations.

Kira Lee

Senior, Kenwood Academy High School, Going to: Loyola University Chicago, Career Goal: Dermatologist

As a first-generation, low-income student from an underserved community, Kira is committed not only to academic excellence but also to serving as a role model. Her future goals include establishing her own medical practice to provide affordable healthcare, creating accessible skincare products, employing Black and Brown physicians, offering medical internships for students of color, and increasing representation in her community.

Taylor Newton

Junior, University of Michigan, Career Goal: Anesthesiologist

Taylor is committed to addressing the needs of underserved communities and creating equitable opportunities for all. She demonstrates this through leadership, mentorship, and volunteer service. In her role as Chartering President of the University of Michigan chapter of the National Society of Black Women in Medicine, she supports the recruitment, retention, and advancement of Black women in healthcare. She plans to use the scholarship to help cover tuition and off-campus living expenses, reducing the need to work multiple jobs and allowing her to focus on her studies and community service.

Kameryn Rasberry

Senior, Oswego East, Going to: Loyola University Chicago, Career Goal: Pediatric Cardiologist

As a Public Health major on the pre-med track, Kameryn aspires to become a pediatric cardiologist. She recognizes that healthcare disparities persist, leaving many without access to quality treatment or viable options. Motivated by her experiences, she is committed to using her voice to address inequities within the African American community. Kameryn believes the most important leadership qualities are empathy, integrity, resilience, and adaptability.
